 A novel serotonin enhancer!
Stablon or Tianeptine is a drug used as an anti-depressant, in the same sort of way that Prozac or Paxil is, in that it can improve the availability of the calming neurotransmitter- serotonin. But rather than blocking the uptake of serotonin that occurs with those aforementioned SSRIs, Stablon actually increases the uptake of serotonin!
No one has actually been able to clearly define why this almost opposite action to the SSRI anti-depressants also has the same affects, i.e. it acts as an anti-depressant, but indeed it does. What has made many physicians look at Stablon as a replacement to the "classically" and currently widely used anti-depressants is that certain types of side-effects present in the classics and void with Stablon. In particular, Stablon is not known to interfere with the libido/ sexual appetite and doesn't have a drowsy effect in the majority of cases.
But like most anti-depressants, Stablon could interfere with other anti-depressants, particularly MAO inhibitors, (including Gerovital-H3) and other SSRIs such as Prozac etc.
Therefore, if you intend to combine Stablon with any other combination with any other anti-depressants, you must only do so under the guidance of a physician.
Dosage: The recommended dosage is 1 tablet taken by mouth, 3 times daily, before breakfast, lunch and dinner.
This dosage should be lowered for patients over 70 years of age and those with renal problems.
Safety: This medicine should not be used:
With MAO inhibitors (as a rule, there should be an interval of 15 days between a MAOI and Tianeptine treatments)
By expectant or nursing mothers.
By children of less than 15 years of age. Should you have any doubt, consult your doctor.
Persons taking prescription medication should consult a physician before using this product. Long-term use of this product should be supervised and monitored by a health care professional.
