Success that comes from hard work often rewards behaviours that place significant demands on the body’s stress-response systems:

Think about it. Your body was designed to handle short-term stress exceptionally well. The “fight or flight” response developed thousands of years ago by our ancestors kept them safe from immediate harm. It was never designed to remain in a constant state of readiness year after year. One reason biological burnout seems to strike harder in midlife is that your physiological “margin for error” becomes smaller.

Chronic stress increases demand for nutrients involved in energy production, hormone regulation and nervous system function. A nutrient-dense diet rich in protein, healthy fats, colourful vegetables and micronutrients provides the foundation for recovery.
Rethinking Exercise
Exercise is a powerful stress-management tool, but more is not always better. For individuals already experiencing burnout symptoms, balancing a program of high-intensity training with gentler, more restorative movement can be particularly important.
Managing Energy, Not Just Time
High performers often manage their calendars exceptionally well whilst simultaneously neglecting energy management. Paying attention to recovery, workload cycles, mental demands and emotional stress can help prevent chronic depletion before it becomes severe.
